Thane Municipal Corporation: Cluster development scheme draws suggestions (DNA)

Apart from filing 3,000 objections, Thane locals have also submitted suggestions to the cluster development scheme proposed by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC). The Alert Citizens' Forum has suggested certain modifications and clarifications which better the clusters in the city.
One of the suggestions by the citizens' forum wants the civic body to include the building plans which were approved by gram panchayats in Thane before the formation of the TMC in the 90s.
"Thane had any gaothans and many structures came up after panchayat's approval. TMC should consider these buildings legal and give them 25 per cent extra space," says Dayanand Nene, President of Alert Citizens Forum, adding, "Otherwise they may not want to be a part of the cluster."
Moreover, since horizontal hutments will be formed into clusters which will be housed in a tower, this will leave a lot of vacant land. The civic body should clarify the proposed land use of the vacant land.
"Otherwise people may not come forward to offer their areas for CD if there are no accruing benefits," added Nene.
