The state govt. has said that any transactions or deals conducted by an expired managing body of a co-operative housing society will be declared null and void by the state co-operation department. The serious violation may invite suspension of body followed by the appointment of an administrator.
The deputy registrar office of co-operative societies in Pune issued the directives after it was observed that out of 16,376 registered housing societies in the city, 4,000 failed to complete the election-related formalities till date.
Officials also noted that many housing societies have postponed their elections for indefinite period without informing the deputy registrar office. In many cases, the same managing committee is functioning without getting nod and without taking the members into confidence.
A team of district deputy registrar is surveying the status of election and audit reports of housing societies across the city. It has found that only 10 per cent have more than 100 members and over 70 per cent do not have more than 25 members. Less turnover and transactions have resulted into disputes over handling of the management committee.
BT Lawand, deputy registrar of co-operative societies, Pune, said, “We have started issuing notices to these housing societies in order to seek replies. After verifying what they have to say, we will decide the further course of action.”
He added that non-compliance of electionrelated formalities would invite stringent action. An administrator will be appointed in such societies who would take over all the charge. Furthermore, serious violation will lead to cancellation of registration.
“The administrator will ensure that all the transactions and deals that have taken place after the tenure of management committee concerned, will be declared null and void. Serious malpractice would invite criminal proceedings,” said Lawand.
